A number of youth have been increasingly involved in accessing extra curriculum lessons preparing for their final national examinations in June 2016. This has seen the numbers reaching 56 for children and youth doing an assortment of Ordinary and Advanced level subjects. Both youth and children undertaking the classes are seeking to extend their curriculum studies.
We are pleased to announce that the roof for our Child Centre in Sizinda, Victoria Falls has been completed and will be ready for use in January 2016. It has not been an easy task but this has been made possible by the kind support from UNCity Denmark, Elizabeth Foundation and The Roger Federer Foundation. The Child Centre will house over 120 children on a daily basis undergoing Early Childhood Development Education (ECD – A and B) and grade ones effective from January 2016. Please take a moment to check out the pictures of the newly completed roof below. Tune in for more details in the next few weeks.
Since late 2014 construction of UNICA’s new Child-Friendly and Women’s Centre has been underway at Sizinda on the outskirts of Victoria Falls. The new Centre is supported by the Elizabeth Foundation, the Roger Federer Foundation, donations from UN City staff members in Copenhagen as well as individual donors from around the world.
The need for the new Centre was established as part of the “Catch Them Young” Early Childhood Development (ECD) project, which provides children under six with immunisation, healthy meals and facilitating positive dialogues with parents on issues including child rights. UNICA is continuing to implement in the Catch Them Young project partnership with the Roger Federer Foundation and other NGOs in northern Zimbabwe. This includes completing the Sizinda Centre to provide an appropriate facility in that area, replacing a local gazebo where ECD activities are currently being conducted.
